GAMES

According to the United States Department of Education Office of Educational Technology’s National Education Technology Plan 2010 engaging interest and attention of the students is vital.  Games can easily be incorporated into education and grab students’ attention while keeping them on task.  Educational games can be used to ensure that as students pursue self-directed and informal learning they are still guided by professional educators.  When used in small groups games enhance social skills and promote responsibilities in a specific role.

A recent study found that the use of games and hands on activities to teach children about reading caused these children to significantly outscore children who did not use these methods.  Games provide immediate performance feedback so players know how they are doing, and enable educators to assess important competencies and aspects of thinking in contexts and through activities that students care about in everyday life.
